这是Freenet项目主页上的一句话，表明了人们对于全球互联时代的出版、言论自由的担心。自由社会的人们认为，言论、新闻、出版自由是社会自由的根基。没有了言论自由这个基础，则宪法所规定不可侵犯的其它权利将成为一纸空文。向往自由的人们为自由奋斗了多年，也经历了牺牲，同时也承担着自由的代价。但是自由不是一句口号，不是一个静止的状态，她是生活要呼吸的空气，是一个不懈追求的过程。

在不同的时代，对于言论自由有不同的侵犯方式。无媒时代的卫巫监谤，纸媒时代的新闻审查，电子时代的内容过滤，无不在提醒人们，权利没有法律的保障，你只能道路以目，但即使法律赋予你这样那样的权利，但你的权利仍然可能遭受他人的侵犯。

可能被侵犯的权利需要救济的手段来保障，不然则无权利可言。法治国家的建成和权利意识的普及，在这个“以官为师”的国度尚需时日，然而我们已垂垂老去，再等不及。我们需要当下的救济手段。

奢谈他国的美妙与怒斥当政的愚昧已然于事无补，我们需要自己找出自我拯救的方法，毕竟在信息技术如此发达的时代，互联网为我们提供了一个广阔的平台。

Freenet就是这样一个完成自我救赎的工具。这是一个由Ian Clarke于1999 年发起的计划，2000年发布了0.1版，今年5月8日发布0.7版。Freenet是一款用于在互联网自由交换信息而能免于担心审查和报复的软件（Freenet is software designed to allow the free exchange of information over the Internet without fear of censorship, or reprisal.)。Freenet，这个类似于p2p的网络由每个Freenet用户构成的节点组成，每个节点贡献出一定的存储容量和网络带宽，用户匿名上传和下载分布式存储于这个网络中的资料。在每个节点中，所有存储的资料都是加密的，节点的运行者亦无法获知他的节点上所存储的内容，一切内容以 Key——资料的哈希串（hash)来索引。Freenet用户信息发布到网络后，并不需要发布者在线来提供访问，因为上传的资料已经分布式存储于网络中。

Freenet就像寄生于互联网（Internet)中一张秘密网络，你自由地发布，自由地获取，没有人知道你是一条真正的狗。

以下是使用Freenet的简单步骤：

1.下载Freenet
在中国大陆，Freenet早已属于GFWed一族，http://freenetproject.org 无法通过正常途径访问，如果你戴了Tor 则另当别论。下载页面http://freenetproject.org/download.html 提供适用于三种类型操作系统（ Windows, Mac OSX, Linux and Unix-like）的程序包。建议下载offline的版本。

2.安装Freenet
windows下，直接双击下载到了安装包则可开始安装过程。但是如果你下载的又是Web安装版，网络又被屏蔽，可能无法完成安装过程。你需要设置一个全局代理，才能让安装程序访问http://freenetproject.org 下载插件，完成安装。因此建议下载Freenet 0.7 offline installer，如果这个地址无法访问，请到这里下载。

linux下，cd到安装文件所在目录，终端运行：java -jar new_installer_offline.jar ，开始安装。

3.使用Freenet
安装完成后，在浏览器地址栏输入：http://127.0.0.1:8888/wizard/，开始设置。按提示设置你节点的名称，共享的硬盘容量，带宽一些基本信息之后，就可以进入http://127.0.0.1:8888/开始你的Freenet之旅。

Freene是基于Java开发的，因此，在安装之前，确保你的系统已经装好JRE。

So, Finally here is much awaited post that everybody asked for ever since I posted on this topic, I’ve found seven best ways to circumvent censorship currently working apart from various proxy sites whose life span is like of fly. I’ll try to be very brief cause if i’m going to explain each of them then it’ll become my longest post of my life and also 1st four tools are more or less uses same technique as last three shares some similarities. I’m also providing download links some of them are directly from their main sites and some of them are alternative download links.

1) GPass

GPass wraps the network traffic of your Internet applications in various formats and tunnels the wrapped packets through various dynamic channels to its servers. 2) Free Gate

FreeGate is a software utility that enables Chinese and Iranian surfers to view websites banned by their government. Freegate has 200,000 users, Dynamic Internet Technology (DIT), its developer, estimates.

5) Psiphon

Researchers at University of Toronto introduced a software tool on Friday, December 1, 2006 that aims to help people in countries that censor the World Wide Web. Psiphon (pronounced sigh-fawn), a web-based utility, lets individuals in a country that censors the internet sign on to a server that gives them secure access to web pages anywhere, bypassing government restrictions.(Source Main Site)

6) Freenet

Freenet is free software which lets you publish and obtain information on the Internet without fear of censorship. To achieve this freedom, the network is entirely decentralized and publishers and consumers of information are anonymous. 7) Tor

Well, I found Tor and Psiphon a lil complicated to use but other four tools are really great tool in breakthrough to circumvent gowing internet censorship.

Update[13.02.2008] - Wow this list is getting hot coz someone has digged it on digg.com and another guy BURIED it with claim of Duplicate content. but i didn’t knew it was a duplicate one as long as i didn’t went through the link that he has provided with following info

“citizenlab.org — This guide, which is intended for the non-technical user, provides tips and strategies on how to by-pass content filters worldwide. Whereas once it was assumed that states could not control Internet communications, according to research by the OpenNet Initiative (www.opennet.net) more than 25 countries now engage in Internet censorship practice.” (there is correction now there is more than 31 countries - by me )

The Freenet Project is very pleased to announce the release of Freenet 0.7.0.

Freenet is software designed to allow the free exchange of information over the Internet without fear of censorship, or reprisal. To achieve this Freenet makes it very difficult for adversaries to reveal the identity, either of the person publishing, or downloading content. The Freenet project started in 1999, released Freenet 0.1 in March 2000, and has been under active development ever since.

Freenet is unique in that it handles the storage of content, meaning that if necessary users can upload content to Freenet and then disconnect. We've discovered that this is a key requirement for many Freenet users. Once uploaded, content is mirrored and moved around the Freenet network, making it very difficult to trace, or to destroy. Content will remain in Freenet for as long as people are retrieving it, although Freenet makes no guarantee that content will be stored indefinitely.

The journey towards Freenet 0.7 began in 2005 with the realization that some of Freenet's most vulnerable users needed to hide the fact that they were using Freenet, not just what they were doing with it. The result of this realization was a ground-up redesign and rewrite of Freenet, adding a "darknet" capability, allowing users to limit who their Freenet software would communicate with to trusted friends. This would make it far more difficult for a third-party to determine who is using Freenet.

Freenet 0.7 also embodies significant improvements to almost every other aspect of Freenet, including efficiency, security, and usability. Freenet is available for Windows, Linux, and OSX. It can be downloaded from:

摘要：We describe Freenet, an adaptive peer-to-peer network application that permits the publication, replication, and retrieval of data while protecting the anonymity of both authors and readers. Freenet operates as a network of identical nodes that collectively pool their storage space to store data files and cooperate to route requests to the most likely physical location of data. No broadcast search or centralized location index is employed. Files are referred to in a location-independent manner, and are dynamically replicated in locations near requestors and deleted from locations where there is no interest. It is infeasible to discover the true origin or destination of a file passing through the network, and difficult for a node operator to determine or be held responsible for the actual physical contents of her own node.
